1. When and Why Did You Decide to Pursue This Dive At This Level? What was your inspiration and motivation?

I have always wanted to become a writer right from childhood but I never really had a chance to explore my talent or discover my area of focus. In the year 2017, during a tutorial class for my post UTME examination, One of our tutors gave us a poetry challenge and that was when I discovered I could write a whole poem at a sitting. From then on I became intentional about writing poem. So, I can say I started pursuing this dive in 2017.

2. How Long Did It Take For You To Accomplish This Dive At This Level From The Day You Decided To Pursue It, And Why Did It Take That Long?

It took me 2 years to achieve this dive level. After writing my first poem, I kept on practicing but never got the chance to present my poem before an official audience for approval until 2019 when I participated in a conference reading. That was when I can say my poem was read by a public audience though it had been read by few individuals before then.

3. What Was The Hardest Part About Achieving This Particular Dive Level?

The hardest part about achieving this dive level was trying to be a poet in a society that believes poetry won’t earn you a dime. It was not easy breaking off that chain and understanding that it’s not always about money. Your dreams might not earn you money at first, but it earns you fulfillment and money eventually.

4. What Was The Easiest Part About Achieving This Particular Dive Level?

I guess the easiest part about this level is that I have an inbuilt passion for poetry. So, I just write from the flow of my thoughts besides this level doesn’t require much advanced reasoning or ambiguity.

5. What Is Your Advice For Someone Who Is Pursuing This Dive And Level?

My advice to someone pursuing this dive and level is that you should write from your thoughts and observations. Whether you have passion for poetry or you’re doing it for any other purpose, you can always form lines of poetry through writing down your thoughts, emotions and observations. Do not always worry about whether they make sense or not, they sure will later on.

7. Tell Us A Story Of One Of Your Adventures While Pursuing This Dive (At This Level).

During the year 2019, My institution was planning a ceremony to mark World Poetry Day. Students of the writers forum were asked to submit poems for approval, poems that will be used on that day. Luckily, my first poem I wrote in 2017 was short-listed. It was really a great adventure for me as I was privileged to meet with great poets from my locality who also listened to my reading. Poems where rendered and performed in diversity. The event inspired me to continue writing lots of other poems and still writing.

8. What Evidence Did You Submit to Prove You Met the Requirements for This Dive and Level?

LIFE
by Ruth Ezebuiro

Life none had ever known
Its mysteries none can disown
Life where people wish to have
People have and never believe to have

Life where one can never be complete
Daily struggles to know whether to be complete
Yet more unknown than the known
We wish to be known but never to be own

Life a place of many wonders
And yet many blunders
Life a place of an ending stay
Yet we wish to live and stay

Life to take us to another life
And end our struggles and strife
Life to take us to a place of gold
And end our painful life of old.

DOCILE
by Ruth Ezebuiro

Who am I?
Who am I to rebel?
Don’t go out! Don’t go out!
That is what I heard, so they told me
Who am I to rebel?

Hear me out,
I was not this way before
I lived, worked and loved
Now it’s not so, for I am confined
Is this really life? Oh! No!
I wasn’t this way before

Don’t go out! Don’t go out!
Or you will be consumed
So they told me, and who am I?
To rebel

Now I wonder, is this really true?
The so called confusion called pandemic
Is this still the life of living? Hear me out!
I was not this way before

Who am I now? What can I do?
I have lost my strength
My energy is sapped
The strength to rebel is no more
The courage to speak is all gone
Now I think I’m about to resign
Even though I hate them
I resign to their fate
The Docile!

9. Will You Be Pursuing The Next Level For This Dive? If Yes, Why? If Not, Why Not?

Yes, poetry is my passion. So I can never stop until I reach the ultimate level of it. In fact, I can never stop writing poems. Writing poems is also a way for me to let go of some emotions when there is no one to talk to. So it’s part of me anyways.

10. What is the Break Diver's Creed?

No Rules. No Excuses. No Regrets.
