What's New

New: Event & Chatroom Redesigns - Part 1

We’ve made several improvements to make events and chatroom easier to find, manage, and attend:

  • More helpful event listings: Past events remain accessible, and the events page is easier to navigate.
  • Better event suggestions: Event admins can see suggestions for events that haven’t been held recently, plus reminders about frequently held events. The lists can be refreshed without reloading the page.  This means it's much easier for admin to create events, which means more events.
  • Clearer event details: Event times display in your local time zone. Event pages also make it easier to see where to meet and who is attending.
  • Attendance tracking: Event admins can record attendance, including who attended, was late, or missed an event.
  • Event reminders: Attendees receive an email reminder one hour before an event.
  • A clearer Event Policy reminder: Members now are 'penalized' for registering and not canceling and not showing up, and also for being late.   we have added "event strikes" and members are now prompted to read the event policy before dismissing the reminder.  FYI: 3 strikes and you can't sign up for events for 3 months, or you can make a $5 donation to Break Diving to clear one strike.
  • Chatroom improvements: The sidebar and upcoming events are easier to use, and staff contact links are easier to find.
  • More reliable event and chatroom links: Admins can manage recurring event types and suggestions more easily, and the Zoom button uses the updated meeting link.

Thanks to everyone who helps keep our events welcoming, organized, and fun!

COMING SOON:
* Recurring scheduled events!   So they happen every week, and every month, on the same day and time, so you can start planning ahead.
* We will also have recurring scheduled 'chat room' events, where you know the schedule every week, and everyone can show up at the same time.  A staff member will always be there, so you will never be alone.
* Member roles, so you can be assigned as a country ambassador, a city ambassador, a dive guide, a dive coordinator, a dive city coordinator, and the list goes on.  This way, we can grow, and some of the responsibilities for managing and growing Break Diving move to other members.

And this list goes on!    Just watch.  By the end of October, the site is going to be 5 times as awesome! :D

New: Dive To-Do Lists Are Here!

It's taken over 6 years, but we are pleased to announce that we now have dive todo lists live on the site.

How it works:
1. Every dive at every level now has a set of required and optional tasks on a to-do list
2. When you pursue a new dive, go to launch control and scroll down to the dive section.
3. Click the dropdown next to a dive in pursuit (Left side of screen).  See all those tasks?
4. Click on the todo list called "Dives" on the right side.  Click one of the dropdowns.  This is where you track your progress.
5. Use this todo list to guide you on your path to reaching the next level.  At the bottom of that list is a private list where you can add custom tasks for each dive!  Cool right?
6. As you complete each task, mark it as done.
7. Notice how the 'certify' button is green, but not active, and you can't click it?
8. Once you complete all of the required tasks... the button turns full green and is now active.
9. You can then proceed to certifying the dive.

NOTE: You are limited in how many custom private tasks you can create on the free plan.  To have unlimited tasks, please upgrade to a paid membership!

New: Two New Features!

1. The chatrooms now show who is typing!  This will help you to know who else is there.  Soon, we will also add a 'who is here' box to show who is in that particular chatroom.
2. On website and mobile website, the notification widget now shows the correct number of unread notifications and also now has a 'sort' drop down, so you can see your unread by newest to oldest, or oldest to newest!

More updates and new features coming soon!

Update: Do Not Use AI On Break Diving

If you use AI to write your posts or comments, you will be warned, and then on second time, removed from community.
If you use AI to write poems or songs, and pass them off as your own, same warning.
If you use AI to write and submit your dive certification posts, same warning.

BOTTOM LINE: Stop using AI to avoid having to think, write, and be you.

I see so much content here now that is clearly written by AI. I’m extremely good at English. Yet many posts here are written by people with English as a second language writing better than me, and with zero grammar or punctuation errors.  And writing in a way absolutely no one speaks or writes. Clearly AI.

Friendly warning: NO AI. Write in own words. Bad grammar and spelling and all.  Because that is what makes you YOU!  Be proud of who you are.

Thank you for keeping this an authentic community of real people and real responses. Not a community of bots and AI answers.

Fix: Member Upgrade Bug

I just fixed it.  Gay is now Level 1 Break Diver!   Congrats Gay.  And now the code works to upgrade people correctly.

-----------------------

Hi all,

I just upgraded Gay's 5th Level 1 dive, and when that happens, she should automatically become Break Diver - Level 1.  Yet she is still showing up as a 'Recruit' when she is actually 'Level 1'.   This is a coding bug.  I thought we had fixed it, but now have assigned the task to the coder who attempted to fix it, to get him to review it again.  I am also reviewing the code too.  We will get this fixed as soon as we can!  Thank you for your patience.

PS - Gay Mare Capones in Philippines is OFFICIALLY a LEVEL 1 BREAK DIVER (even though her profile does not reflect that).  Great job Gay!

New: Dive ToDo Lists Coming Soon!

In about 3 weeks (end of August, beginning of September), I will be finished creating required and optional tasks for EVERY dive at EVERY level.

What does this mean?

Now when you pursue a dive, a todo list will show up, showing precisely what you need to do before you can get certified at that level.  You won't be able to click 'Certify' until you finish all of the required tasks.  There will also be suggested 'optional' tasks to inspire you as well.  Finally, for premium members, you will be able to then create your own CUSTOM tasks.

Things are heating up here.  Break Diving is slowly becoming what I always envisioned it to be!

New: Improved City Groups - Phase 1

We just updated the city group pages to make it a LOT easier to see who is a part of each city group, and which groups are represented in that city.

Go here: https://www.breakdiving.io/large_cities

Find your city group.

Play around on the left side of the page, where it shows two tabs: People / Groups.

We will continue to improve the city groups page in the weeks and months ahead with city posts, city events, and city group leader.  City group leader (and also vice president) will be the primary point of contact for people interested in that city group.  These members will also be in charge of facilitating local events, and recruiting more people to join that city group.

We will also be adding a button to the left of Launch Control in the nav bar that says, "My City" and that will take you to your city group page, so you can see what's going on, and inspire our members to try to get together locally.

New: Upcoming Features

1. Progress Status (Just Released - See Below)
2. Life To Do List (Late August 2025) - Up to 10 items on free plan; more than 10 requires upgrade to paid plan
3. General To Do List (Early September)
4. Dive To Do Lists (Mid October)
5. Local City Groups (Mid November)
And much more!

Note: most features are to be released first on website, and later, we will code these features onto the mobile app.   Web will always get new features first.

Feature: Progress Status is Live!

Launch Control just got even better!

Now (on desktop), you can clearly see your current dive level, your total number of dive certifications, and how many more you need to get to the next level!  No more confusion about the dive program and how you move up from Recruit to Level 1, and from Level 1 to Level 2!  Hooray!

In the example above (for me)(yes, photo is distorted--fixing that!), I have 17 total certifications, and am Level 2.  In the certification breakdown, it lets me know that to become Level 3, I need 4 more dives at Level 1, 4 more dives at Level 2, and 3 more dives at Level 3.  Great stuff!

NOTE: This is still beta, and there may be bugs.  If the count doesn't look right for you, please let me (Monroe) know via private message.

How to use it?   Click on the green "Launch Control" button on the nav bar on DESKTOP.  This feature is not yet available on the mobile app.
