1. When and Why Did You Decide to Pursue This Dive At This Level? What was your inspiration and motivation?

I decided to undertake this Excuse Destroyer Dive on January 4th, 2025. I decided to undertake this Dive because I had used a lot of excuses to avoid taking risks and the feeling of uncertainty.  I am working on coming to terms with the first one: Uncertainty Avoidance.  I'm now taking risks in social situations that I would not normally  take to increase my tolerance for uncertainty.

2. How Long Did It Take For You To Accomplish This Dive At This Level From The Day You Decided To Pursue It, And Why Did It Take That Long?

The  Excuse Destroyer dive took me about 3 months to achieve because I needed to gather the evidence. I am engaging in more social situations like the Village Church Community Dinners.  I am also going to Village Church more and evaluating which is the best Bible study group to join.  My exercise level has also increased and I am not conscious of how I look to other people. This has helped me to use my own achievements as internal validation, instead of possibly seeking external validation.

3. What Was The Hardest Part About Achieving This Particular Dive Level?

The hardest part of this dive was to put myself into situations that increased my tolerance to uncertainty. These situations included engaging in more social situations where I needed to extend myself and try to extend my social engagement.  Probably the biggest one was redefining friendship at an adult level as opposed to what we are taught when we were younger.  When we were young, we were taught that friendship was when you were kind to other people and treated other people with respect, then that would usually be returned.

However, when we are adults, the social groups have already been established, the status relationships have already been established, and new additions to an established group are not always welcoming to new additions. New additions to any adult group are based on similar skills, interests or occupations. Any addition would be conditional on the new arrival being able to add value to a group or fill a skill gap that is apparent in the group.

4. What Was The Easiest Part About Achieving This Particular Dive Level?

There was no easy part to this dive. This dive was about destroying my excuse of uncertainty avoidance. This involved me being honest and transparent with myself, which is not always easy. A large part of this was using my notebook to take down information involved in destroying my excuse of Uncertainty. Possibly related was putting myself in more social situations forcing myself out of my social comfort zone.

5. What Is Your Advice For Someone Who Is Pursuing This Dive And Level?

My advice for someone that is pursuing this dive is to start with the easiest excuse so that you can get one successful outcome under your belt.

Thoroughly define your excuse that you want to destroy.  I would suggest that you use the S.M.A.R.T. method to define your goal and to define the time that you want to be able to achieve your goal.

This method can help you to accurately set your own milestones and benchmarks about what you want to achieve on the way to achieving your goals.

6. What Are Some Of The Best Resources You Recommend to Those Pursuing This Dive At This Level, And Why Do You Recommend Them? Please Include Relevant Weblinks, If Applicable.

7. Tell Us A Story Of One Of Your Adventures While Pursuing This Dive (At This Level).

While I was pursuing this Dive, I put myself i  more situations that put me out of me out of  my comfort zone, at a church community dinner. Initially I thought that if I was nice or cordial to people that it would be relatively easy to make new social connections. However, I found out that these adult social groups had already been well and firmly established and had a firm social hierarchy and status levels. New arrivals might initially be greeted and welcomed, but gaining acceptance into firmly entrenched social groups were a challenge as the new arrival.

8. What Evidence Did You Submit to Prove You Met the Requirements for This Dive and Level?

The evidence that I am sharing is photos of me at the Village Community Dinner to show that I am pushing myself out of my social comfort zone.  I am also including my stats for this quarter to show I am more engaged with The Break Diving website.

9. Will You Be Pursuing The Next Level For This Dive? If Yes, Why? If Not, Why Not?

I will be pursuing the Dive to the next level and beyond because I have a number of excuses to destroy. I am going to keep going because this dive is an excellent tool to aid my metacognition.

10. What is the Break Diver's Creed?

No Rules. No Excuses. No Regrets. - The Creed.
Dream Big. Mentor Often. Achieve together. - The Community Motto
